What is DashPass?
DashPass is a modular, mobile solution designed to increase the efficiency and safety of the school dismissal process at K-12 schools. Using DashPass, students remain safely in the classroom until parents are automatically detected upon arrival to campus. This ensures all students are kept in the safest place possible: the classroom. No more mass dismissal curbside where safety and order are difficult to maintain.
*COVID-19 Update: DashPass offers an exclusive feature that allows schools to regulate or ‘throttle’ dismissal to match curbside capacity maintaining correct social distancing. Using this feature, schools set maximum number of students that can be simultaneously dismissed and DashPass will not allow the next student in queue to be released from class until a previous parent has been detected leaving campus.
How does DashPass work?
Using a mobile application on each authorized pickup parent’s phone, DashPass detects when a parent has crossed a ‘geo-fence’ around campus set by school administration. The appropriate teacher(s) and/or staff are notified directly of the arrival, and the student is released to go to pickup area. DashPass detects the departure and releases more students in the queue up to the maximum capacity set by the school.
At the heart of the DashPass solution are 3 systems: the DashPass App, The Teachers and Staff School App, and the School Administration app. When a school is enrolled, the system links itself to the student information system, where classes, students, teachers, and parent/guardian information is managed. It then allows the school to set up dismissal windows and determine the geo-fence area around the school.
How does DashPass handle ‘walkers’?
Those students walking to/from school each day are registered with administration and appear in each teacher’s class list designated as a ‘walker’. That student is dismissed to a monitored exit of the school.
*Covid 19 Update: Parents are prohibited from walking into school to avoid unnecessary contact with students and staff. All parents remain in their cars and students are released using DashPass and picked up curbside.
How does DashPass handle carpooling, multi-family pickup, and multi-school pickup.?
DashPass features include carpool management. Parents self-manage the creation of a carpool and designate/authorize drivers for pickup. An authorization workflow is triggered to ensure that all guardians are in agreement. When a designated driver arrives, all students in the carpool are queued for release.
DashPass understands that parents can drive to different schools to pick up students. While the carpool interface in the app shows all the students to be picked up, the system only queues those students at the driver’s current location..
What if a parent/guardian forgets/does not have the DashPass app?
As cars are queued upon arrival, those without DashPass will advance in the queue until met by a staff member who can manually dismiss the student(s) with the DashPass Teachers and Staff app.
What happens if someone coming into the pickup area is not registered?
If a driver is not registered in DashPass, school staff must follow local procedures to authorize the release of students.
Does DashPass advise parents that the student has been dismissed?
DashPass sends a notification to the parent’s mobile phone when the student has been released from classroom.
How is DashPass priced?
DashPass is a hosted solution licensed annually on a per student basis. Pricing is determined by school size. One-time implementation fees and ongoing maintenance are priced separately.
How is the parent/guardian registration process?
Once a school is registered and configured, parents are sent a link to download application.
Is it multi-lingual?
Yes. the DashPass is now available in English, Spanish (Español), Portuguese (Português), Haitian Creole (Kreyòl), French (Français), & German (Deutsch)!
Can DashPass track me all the time?
No, DashPass only uses location data when the app is on and only during designated dismissal windows.
How does DashPass know I’m in the car line?
The DashPass app installed on your phone checks your location and time of day. If the location is within the school’s designated perimeter and the time is within the dismissal window, the mobile app sends a signal to the system notifying that you arrived. Likewise, when you depart the perimeter, the app tells the system that you left.
Do I have to use the app while I’m driving?
No. The DashPass app works without any need to interact with your phone while driving.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Follow your school’s procedures. Typically, you will go to school and will move to the front of the car line, where you will see a school staff who will dismiss your student(s).
